Hill Climb second round roars off this weekend

AFTER technical and safety inspections of competing vehicles held simultaneously on Tuesday 25 March in the San Miguel by the Bay premises for NCR based entries and in Baguio City for entries based in the north, the second round of the 2008 Hill Climb Series organized by the Hill Climb Club of the Philippines (HCCP), brought to you by Castrol Magnatec, in partnership with Wave 89.1, Hotwire Studio 23, San Miguel by the Bay, Eibach Springs, Speedlab, Prince Plaza Hotel and sanctioned by the Automobile Club of the Philippines roars off on March 29 and 30 in one of the pine tree-lined zigzag roads of Benguet. The first car will flag off at 8:00 a.m. on both dates.

Carlos Anton underscored his unstoppable presence in the 2007 Hill Climb Series organized by the Hill Climb Club of the Philippines and sanctioned by the Automobile Association of the Philippines, when he set the fastest time of the day and topped the premier Group 3 class on the three-kilometer uphill course located in Barangay Mabayo in Morong, Bataan last weekend.

Introduction to Hillclimbing

Hillclimbing (also known as hill climbing, speed hillclimbing or speed hill climbing) is a branch of motorsports in which drivers compete against the clock to complete an uphill course. Events are usually held on courses, which are several kilometers long, taking advantage of the available hills and mountains.

It is one of the oldest forms of racing, since the first known Hillclimb (at La Turbie near Nice, France) took place as long ago as 31 January 1897. The Hillclimb held at Shelsley Walsh, in Worcestershire, England is the world's oldest running motorsports event still staged on its original course, having been first run in 1905.

The 2007 Hill Climb Series is organized and promoted by the Hill Climb Club of the Philippines.

General Conditions:
The event shall be organized in conformity with the provisions of the FIA International Sporting Code (ISC), the List of Requirements of the Hillclimbs Commission (Asia) for the organizers of Hillclimbs, the National Sporting Code of the Automobile Association of the Philippines and the provisions of the Supplementary Regulations.

Fees:
1. (Annual) Club membership fee: PhP 1,000.00
2. (Subsidized for 2007) Entry fee: PhP 500.00 (per class)

Eligible Drivers:
1. Driver must be current member of the Hill Climb Club of the Philippines.
2. Drivers must possess a current national competition license obtained from the local ASN.
a) a current civil driver�s license issued by the LTO, and
b) a current national Competition License issued by the local ASN.

Survey of the Course:
An organized convoy will be arranged prior to official runs.

Race:
A minimum of two (2) heats will be allotted per competitor and the best time from the heats will count towards the classification of the day�s winner in each class.

Classes:

A. GROUP 1	below 1600 CC
B. GROUP 2	1600 CC to 1999 CC
C. GROUP 3	2000 CC and above

NOTE:	For vehicles with forced induction such as turbo chargers and super chargers, a 1.5 factor will be applied to the engine displacement to determine classification.

	Ex: 1300 CC (turbo charged) X 1.5 = 1950CC. Therefore, said vehicle will fall under Group 2.

D. Historic Car Class:

For cars manufactured in 1970 or earlier

Points System:
In all cases, the following will be applied and will count towards the Overall Class Championship and National Championship points.

1st Place - 20 pts	6TH Place - 6 pts.
2nd Place - 15 pts.	7TH Place - 4 pts.
3rd Place - 12 pts.	8TH Place - 3 pts.
4th Place - 10 pts.	9TH Place - 2 pts.
5th Place - 8 pts.	10TH Place - 1 pt.

Classification:
Only the top three times per class will be awarded per event.

NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP POINTS:
The top ten (10) times of the day will be counted towards points for the National Championship.

NOTE:

ONLY drivers with cars that meet the requirements set for the National Championship will be eligible to earn points.

Safety Requirements:

1. Helmet	- in compliance with FIA standards
2. Fire extinguisher	- portable or hand held (minimum 5 kg)
	- plumbed in (in minimum 7.5 kg)
3. First Aid Kit	- required on board
4. Safety Harness	- 3-point seatbelt (minimum)
	- 4-point seatbelt (if vying for national title)
5. Roll protection	- 4-point roll cage in compliance with FIA standards (if vying for national title)
6. Driving Gloves	- recommended
7. Racing Suit	- recommended
8. Racing Shoes	- recommended

Tires:
The use of slick tires is prohibited.

Fuel:
Fuel is open.

Navigators:
Drivers must compete solo. Co-drivers are not allowed.

THE Hill Climb Club of the Philippines (HCCP) organized by a group of long-time motorsports enthusiasts was formally launched on December 7, 2006 at the Mint Bar and Bistro located at the Fort Strip in the Bonifacio Global city in Taguig City.

The event, which was attended by officials of the Automobile Association of the Philippines (AAP), motor racing aficionados and members of the media, marked the creation of a body that will now oversee the organization and conduct of hillclimbing in the Philippines in accordance with the general prescriptions set forth by the AAP and the Federation Internationale de l�Automobile (FIA).
