About Hillclimb Club of the Philippines

THE Hill Climb Club of the Philippines (HCCP) organized by a group of long-time motorsports enthusiasts was formally launched on December 7, 2006 at the Mint Bar and Bistro located at the Fort Strip in the Bonifacio Global city in Taguig City.

The event, which was attended by officials of the Automobile Association of the Philippines (AAP), motor racing aficionados and members of the media, marked the creation of a body that will now oversee the organization and conduct of hillclimbing in the Philippines in accordance with the general prescriptions set forth by the AAP and the Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA).

Founding members of the Club include former Rally Co-Driver of the Year Blue Reyna, circuit racing and rally champion Edgen Dy-Liacco, veteran rally driver Albert Narciso, rallyist and off-roader Jojo Macaraeg, outdoorsman and adventurer Ernie Garcia, and motoring journalist Popong Andolong.

According to HCCP president Reyna, “The beauty of hill climbing is that practically anyone with a car can compete. Since it is a race against the clock, it is not so much about racing against other drivers but rather against one’s self.”

Reyna added, “This is the first time that a club has been organized for the specific purpose of bringing together hill climb enthusiasts and running events. This is why we would like to take this opportunity to invite those who would like to try the sport including those who are already involved in other branches of motorsports.”

Three events are planned for the first half of 2007. In keeping with hill climbing tradition and to ensure parity for all competitors, the venues will only be announced several days before each event during the briefings.
